Understanding China I
About this course.
This insightful course explores China’s rise from a Chinese perspective, allowing participants to better understand both what is happening and what China’s future direction of travel may be. There is also an enhaced TWO DAY COURSE available. This course is designed for anyone who wants an understanding of China which goes beyond hyperbole and rhetoric, including entrepreneurs, business leaders, chambers of commerce and policy makers.
This course begins with an overview of the achievements of modern China. The historical, political and cultural context are then explored, and these provide a solid foundation for understanding the complexity of modern China, her national priorities, international relationships and involvement in international bodies. Finally we hazard a guess at what we might reasonably expect as we look into China’s future.
Primary learning outcomes
Participants in this course will: Gain a balanced understanding of China’s economic achievements. Understand the key historical, political and cultural events and influences which shape China’s world view. Be informed on the challenges facing China and her responses. Develop a solid framework for understand China’s international relations. Understand the major considerations that may affect China’s future development.

At various points in this course we adopt a specifically China-centric view of the world. The purpose is for participants to understand rather than necessarily agree with this perspective.
